With exotic broad leaf foliage and magnificent flowers they join the list of must have plants for the tropical garden. Possibly the hardiest of the Gingers is Alpinia Zerumbet variegate, a tall fast growing plant ideal for Sydney. The Ginger family is a large one and contains several genera; from December through to March Palmland offers an extensive range of Gingers from the Curcuma, Alpinia, Cauteya, Zingiber and Hedychium genera.

There are thousands of species of ferns, Palmland offers an extensive range of ferns both native and exotic. Most ferns prefer the shade from a canopy although the number one selling fern at Palmland, Blechnum Silver Lady tolerates full morning sun and the very popular Cyathea Cooperii grows equally well in both shade or full sun. However the vast majority of ferns stocked enjoy total shade.
Included in those ferns offered are: Adiantum – Maidenhair fern, Asplenium – Birds Nest fern, Dicksonia Antarctica, Polypodiuym, Crytomium, Platycerium – Staghorn, Elkhorn, Tassel fern.

Flower heads, correctly termed as bracts, range in colours from soft pink to vibrant yellows and reds. These may be produced in a pendulant habit or erect. The true flower is either tucked out of sight within the bract, or protrudes out as a feature.

Heliconias come in a range of height and growth habits. Some may only reach 50cm while others may reach 6m in tropical climates.

The large disc-shaped leaves develop a bright red or pink band that highlight the edges of the smooth, fleshy paddles.
